Mali is preparing to host the third edition of the National Reconciliation Week (Senare 2024), from September 15 to 21, 2024. This national initiative, established by decree No. 2021-5480/MRPCN on December 27, 2021, promotes reconciliation and social cohesion. This year’s theme, “Solidarity with the victims of floods in the AES region,” emphasizes the need to support populations affected by natural disasters, a recurring issue in the region.
A Theme Focused on Solidarity in Times of Crisis
Floods have severely impacted several communities within the AES region (West Africa, the Sahel, and neighboring areas), leaving thousands homeless and causing significant human and material losses. In this context, Senare 2024 has chosen to highlight national and regional solidarity in support of the victims of these disasters.
The week’s agenda includes commemorative events, discussion forums, and awareness campaigns to mobilize public opinion and encourage concerted action. Malian authorities, in partnership with humanitarian organizations and local communities, aim to strengthen the ties between different sectors of society, while working toward better management of future crises.
A Long-Term Commitment to Reconciliation
Beyond this year’s specific theme, Senare serves as a key moment to emphasize the importance of national reconciliation. Since its inception in 2021, this event has contributed to easing social tensions and promoting dialogue in a country facing numerous security and humanitarian challenges.
Through initiatives focused on dialogue, forgiveness, and social reconstruction, Senare seeks to provide a platform where Malians from all walks of life can come together, share, and build a common future based on peace and solidarity.
A Regional Framework for Global Issues
This year’s theme, which extends beyond Mali’s borders, highlights that environmental and humanitarian crises do not recognize boundaries. Senare 2024 aims to foster a regional dynamic within the AES area to encourage solidarity and cooperation in addressing common challenges. International mobilization will also be a central point of discussion, as Mali seeks to strengthen its partnerships with neighboring countries and international organizations to better tackle future crises. By celebrating National Reconciliation Week, Mali continues to set an example of resilience and civic engagement, while underscoring the importance of collective action for peace and stability in the region.
